Themes

A theme controls how song lyrics and Bible verses look on the projector: typography, size, color, alignment, background, text shadow. EFA Projection ships with several pre-built themes and lets you create your own.

There are two categories:

  • Static themes — a fixed background (solid color, image) with configurable typography. This is what other software usually calls a “theme”.
  • Animated themes — looping video backgrounds underneath the text. EFA Projection ships with a curated collection (gradients, particles, scenery). They download on demand and stay cached.

Both are managed from the Themes tab in the sidebar.

  1. Sidebar → Themes tab.
  2. Click the theme you want.
  3. It applies immediately to the projection window and stays put while you project different items.

To remove the theme and return to the default background, click Clear theme.

From the Themes tab → + button or New theme:

For the text to read well on any background:

  • White text with a black shadow (offset 2px, blur 4px) is the most universal preset.
  • Black text on light backgrounds has better contrast.
  • Avoid decorative fonts for songs — people have to read quickly and from a distance.

To the right of the editor you see a preview with sample text and the applied theme. Move the sliders and the changes are reflected live.

If you want a theme similar to an existing one, right-click → Duplicate. A copy is created that you can edit without affecting the original.

EFA Projection comes with several ready-made themes:

  • Classic light — black text on a white background.
  • Classic dark — white text on a black background.
  • Subtle — white text with a soft shadow on a blue gradient.
  • Cinema — white text with a black outline, positioned at the bottom (subtitle style).

These can’t be deleted but can be duplicated for customization.

The animated background collection downloads from EFA Projection’s CDN:

  1. Themes tab → Animated section.
  2. Click a background. The first time it downloads (you see a spinner with a percentage), after that it stays cached.
  3. The background is applied behind the text of the active theme.

Some plans limit how many animated backgrounds can be active at once. See Plan and subscription.

  • Animated backgrounds don’t include audio — their videos are muted. If you want music, add background audio.
  • They’re infinite-loop videos — they don’t draw attention at the cut.

For a color background without building a full theme, use the solid color picker:

  • From the preview → palette icon → pick a color.
  • Or from the mobile remote control → “Set solid color”.

This overrides the current theme’s background until you clear the solid color.

By default the active theme applies to the whole program. If you want a specific item to use a different theme:

  1. Right-click the program item → Item theme.
  2. Pick the theme for that item.

When you project that item, its theme is applied; when you move to the next item, it returns to the global theme.

Right-click the theme → Delete. Default themes can’t be deleted.

To understand how all this is applied on the projector screen, Projection window.
